Mice and wood go way back. Long before our Mouse on Cheese was turned on a lathe in a workshop in Britain, mice were quietly gnawing their way through the timbers of old cottages, barns and wooden sailing ships — living hidden lives inside the very structures humans built around them.

'Mice in the woodwork' became both a literal truth and a figure of speech. Something small, persistent and resourceful, making a home in the most unlikely places.
