The hexagon is nature’s favourite shape. Honeybees build their combs in hexagons because it’s the most efficient way to fill a space with the least amount of wax — maximum storage, minimum material. The same six-sided structure appears in basalt rock formations, snowflakes, the eyes of insects and the cells of living tissue.
